Melbourne, Australia Sunday 20 January 2008 - The new king of poker was crowned this evening when, Alexander Kostritsyn won the No-Limit Texas Holdem ‘Main Event’ at the 2008 Aussie Millions Poker Championship held at Melbourne’s Crown Casino. He had to beat one of the toughest NL Hold'em tournament players in the world in Erik Seidel for the victory.

MELBOURNE Australia, 19 January, 2008 – 98 players returned to the Crown Casino in Melbourne on yesterday for Day 3 of the 2008 Aussie Millions ‘Main Event’, all striving for a spot in the top 80 paid slots and a shot at the AUD $1.65 Million first prize. Matthew LaGarde started the day atop the leaderboard, with some of poker's biggest stars on the chase, including Mike Matusow, Jeff Lisandro, Erik Seidel, Kenna James, Erick Lindgren and Andy Black, who finished in third place at this event last year.

MELBOURNE Australia, 18 January, 2008 – 338 survivors from the 2008 Aussie Millions ‘Main Event’ gathered at Melbourne's Crown Casino for Day 2 of the year's biggest tournament to date. 2007 thirdplace finisher and Full Tilt pro Andy Black started with a slight chip lead over Phil Ivey, and then ended up facing him at the same starting table. Joining the fray was 2005 World Champion Joe Hachem, who had also finished Day 1 with a big stack.

MELBOURNE Australia, 17 January, 2008 – The places have been set and the final numbers for the 2008 Aussie Millions Main Event are 780 players, generating an AUD$7.8 Million prize pool. This puts the Aussie Millions fourth in player numbers outside the World Series of Poker, and eighth in prize money. Day 2 begins TODAY with the remaining 338 players, where we will again play 6 levels.

MELBOURNE Australia, 15 January 2008 - The field was stacked with serious poker stars for Day 1- Flight 1 of the 2008 Aussie Millions ‘Main Event’. Gavin Smith, John Juanda, Karina Jett, Eli Elezra and Tony G were among the big names in the 215-player field, with 2007 third-place finisher Andy Black finishing with the chip lead. The preponderance of big names in the field made for some tough table draws, including Gavin Smith's starting table, which also included Brandon Schaefer, Dag Martin Mikkelsen, David Grey and John Juanda. Smith described it as a ‘sick table’.

MELBOURNE Australia, 13 January, 2008 – The biggest names in poker took their seats around three tables as the largest-buyin event of the 2008 Aussie Millions kicked off, the $100,000 No-Limit Hold'Em event. Last year's winner, Erick Lindgren, joined 2007 Aussie Millions Main Event champion Gus Hansen, multiple WSOP bracelet holders Phil Ivey and Erik Seidel, and a host of other poker superstars including Tony G, Howard Lederer, 2000 World Champion Chris 'Jesus' Ferguson and Masaaki Kagawa.

The final eight players winnowed down to a winner in a mere three hours.

MELBOURNE Australia, 9 January, 2008 – Jimmy "gobboboy" Fricke was the runner-up at last year's Aussie Millions ‘Main Event’ championship after losing to Gus Hansen heads up. Although his victory last night did not come close to his feat last year, it was pretty close. With about three tables to go, Gobboboy emerged as the chip leader and began to distance himself from the rest of the pack. Once the final table began, he kept adding to his already big stack. The feeling in the poker room was not one of "if" Gobboboy was going to win...rather "when" he was going to take it down. And exactly at 2am local time, he did just that!

Crown Melbourne today announced the tournament schedule for the Southern Hemisphere's richest poker event - the 2008 Aussie Millions Poker Championship. The 16 day event will begin on Saturday 5 January and will end on Sunday 20 January 2008 when the Final Table of the 'Main Event' of eight players will play down to one champion who will walk away with a guaranteed AUD $1.5Million first prize.
