• 20 January 2008 Melbourne, Australia Sunday 20 January 2008 - The new king of poker was crowned this evening when, Alexander Kostritsyn won the No-Limit Texas Holdem ‘Main Event’ at the 2008 Aussie Millions Poker Championship held at Melbourne’s Crown Casino. He had to beat one of the toughest NL Hold'em tournament players in the world in Erik Seidel for the victory.
  • 19 January 2008 MELBOURNE Australia, 19 January, 2008 – 98 players returned to the Crown Casino in Melbourne on yesterday for Day 3 of the 2008 Aussie Millions ‘Main Event’, all striving for a spot in the top 80 paid slots and a shot at the AUD $1.65 Million first prize. Matthew LaGarde started the day atop the leaderboard, with some of poker's biggest stars on the chase, including Mike Matusow, Jeff Lisandro, Erik Seidel, Kenna James, Erick Lindgren and Andy Black, who finished in third place at this event last year.
  • 18 January 2008 MELBOURNE Australia, 18 January, 2008 – 338 survivors from the 2008 Aussie Millions ‘Main Event’ gathered at Melbourne's Crown Casino for Day 2 of the year's biggest tournament to date. 2007 thirdplace finisher and Full Tilt pro Andy Black started with a slight chip lead over Phil Ivey, and then ended up facing him at the same starting table. Joining the fray was 2005 World Champion Joe Hachem, who had also finished Day 1 with a big stack.

Gavin Smith, John Juanda, Karina Jett, Eli Elezra and Tony G were among the big names in the 215-player field, with 2007 third-place finisher Andy Black finishing with the chip lead. The preponderance of big names in the field made for some tough table draws, including Gavin Smith's starting table, which also included Brandon Schaefer, Dag Martin Mikkelsen, David Grey and John Juanda. Smith described it as a ‘sick table’.

With about three tables to go, Gobboboy emerged as the chip leader and began to distance himself from the rest of the pack. Once the final table began, he kept adding to his already big stack.
